The Man Behind the Uniform

Himanshu Roy was a senior IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, widely respected for his integrity, leadership and ability to handle some of the country’s most challenging investigations with clarity, courage & fairness.

Colleagues remember him as a mentor who always stood up for what was right, while remaining deeply attentive to the welfare of constables and junior officers who form the backbone of the policing system.

Beyond his official duties, he was a gold‑medallist Chartered Accountant, a voracious reader and a man of quiet but unwavering faith, devoted to Lord Ganesh, yet deeply respectful of all spiritual paths.

He was passionate about Indian classical music, counted many eminent musicians as friends, and was known for his love of fitness, sport and languages – moving with ease between English, Marathi, Gujarati and Hindi.

Those who knew him best often spoke of a rare combination: immense physical presence and an equally immense gentleness of heart.

The term “Gentle Giant”, once used by a friend, has since become the most fitting way to describe the man whose life continues to inspire this Foundation.

About the Himanshu Roy Foundation

The Himanshu Roy Foundation is a NPO (non-profit organisation) established by the family and close well‑wishers of late IPS officer Himanshu Roy, to carry forward the values that defined his life – courage in service, dignity for the vulnerable, reverence for Indian culture and deep compassion for all living beings.

Through focused initiatives in police welfare, children’s empowerment, Indian classical music, animal protection and cancer care, the Foundation seeks to turn his inner convictions into sustained, real‑world impact.

A Living Tribute to His Values

After his passing, family and loved ones felt a deep need to honour not just his professional achievements, but the causes and sensitivities that animated his everyday life.

The Himanshu Roy Foundation emerged from this desire – to keep his spirit tangibly present in the world through work that reflects what mattered most to him.

He cared strongly for the dignity and morale of police constables, the opportunities available to children from less privileged backgrounds, the preservation of India’s rich classical music heritage, the protection of indigenous cows and the struggles of those battling cancer.

The Foundation brings these strands together under one roof, so that his legacy is not confined to memory alone, but continues as a steady force for good.
